Well, it’s here. Last week marked a milestone for the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
We have completed a total analysis of our communications methods. We are currently revising our approaches and are launching over the next few months, an entirely new way of keeping in touch with the community.
I have to say that at this stage in my career and life, I didn’t have on my agenda to learn to post to Facebook, or to tweet, but I now know — I have no choice.
Like a lot of business owners and managers, we at the Chamber now understand that if we are going to stay in business, we have to stay current with the times and regularly refresh our methods and skills. On May 28 at the Yacht Club in Lakeport, the Chamber Board and marketing teams joined to roll out our first joint social media effort.
The back-story in all of this is that all of us by design or default are making important decisions about the direction of Lake County. And all input is not only welcome, but necessary.
Social media is just about the best and most direct way to have a conversation. Like it or not, it’s not only free, but it is democratic. We all own it. So as independent citizens we can all utilize it for our own causes. In this instance, the cause is to keep in touch. To listen and to speak in a public forum. To move our community into the future.
One of the strengths and limitations of our community is that it is spread out around a lakeside that often makes geography an impediment to face to face meetings. So why not use the tools we have available to the fullest?
No matter what each of us is thinking, we are all by either design or default playing a role in helping or hindering the success of our region. To paraphrase an important early 20th century business person, “if we think we can, we can. If we think we cannot,” well, you get the point.
Joining the conversation is free. Your constructive input is important to building a bridge to a more economically vibrant region. If you have ever thought about how you could be involved in something like this, but either just didn’t have the time or knew how, this is your chance.
