Lakeport >> The No Name Car Club announced the winners of its model building competition during its annual car show at Konocti Vista Casino.

Kelseyville High School teacher Michael Zini’s power/agriculture students began working on the model cars in mid-March. Club members Rick and Becky Thompson acquired all supplies. The entries were judged on creative design, assembly of craftsmanship and best paint by car club members.

The completed model cars were on display at the event, and onlookers got the chance to vote for the people’s choice.

Jose Cacho won Best of Show with a grand prize $200 gift certificate for auto tools or equipment. Cacho also took first-place best paint and first-place best assembly and craftsmanship, and he received new car model kit prizes.

Julianne Totorica won the first-place creative design award, the second-place best paint award and the people’s choice award. Molly Jeffers’ entry won got her the second-place creative design award. Michael Beverlin received the honorable mention best racer award trophy. The contestants had a great experience being in the competition and the car club members enjoyed the interactive process with the students, according to car club member Richard Hernaez.
