UKIAH >> Led by Willits pitcher Dimitri Betts, the West All-Stars defeated an East squad comprised of Lake County high school players 6-2 in the seventh annual North Central League All-Star Game on Sunday at Mendocino College in Ukiah.
Only graduating seniors are invited to participate in the contest.
Betts pitched six innings for the victory, limiting the East to a solitary run. He left the game with a 4-1 lead that became 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth.
Jordan Chana, undefeated this season for Clear Lake at 10-0, took the loss. He worked 2 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on six hits, struck out three and walked none. Following him to the mound were Middletown’s Tyler Holt and two of Chana’s Clear Lake teammates, Matt Heller and Dillon Williams.
The West went ahead to stay with two runs in the bottom of the first. The East answered with a run in the top of the second but the West tacked on two more in the third and sixth innings for a 6-1 lead. The East’s final run came in the eighth.
Clear Lake players accounted for six of the East’s eight total hits. Heller went 2-for-4 with a RBI while Jake Egger went 2-for-5. Williams, Cole Brodnansky, Andrew Vonwal and Jafeth Silva each had a hit.
David Watson of Cloverdale went 3-for-4 with a RBI to lead the West’s nine-hit attack.
