LAKE COUNTY >> Rachel Wingler won 20 games for the Clear Lake Cardinals in 2015, 13 of them during the Cardinals’ run to a North Central League I co-championship.

Winger’s 13 straight victories in league competition earned the junior co-most valuable player honors on the All-NCL I softball team recently selected by a vote of the league’s coaches. Wingler and fellow pitcher Teanne Edens of Cloverdale, also a junior, split the MVP award after both pitchers led their clubs to 13-1 records in league competition.

Wingler is one of three Clear Lake players and one of seven Lake County players to earn All-League first-team honors on this year’s team. Also honored from Clear Lake were seniors Hannah Norwood and Aliza Atkins.

Among other Lake County teams, Lower Lake senior Shelbie Harris and Lower Lake junior Ashlynn Mock, Lake County’s hits and RBI leader in 2015, pulled down first-team honors along with Middletown senior Renee Edwards, who took a run at the county’s single-season strikeout record of 249 by punching out 244 batters, and Kelseyville’s Riley Goff, the only sophomore named to the first team.

Also selected were Cloverdale juniors Jordyn Turner and Monica Lemley.

The list of second-team honorees includes Clear Lake juniors Alicia Ledesma and Emily Psalmonds, Lower Lake senior Emma Diener and junior teammate Kristen Celli, Middletown junior Hannah Flynn, Cloverdale junior Bailey Creager and Cloverdale sophomore Josie Marrufo, St. Helena senior Lily Graff, and Fort Bragg senior Brianna Johnson.

Each team received one honorable mention. From Lake County, Clear Lake junior Mina Werner, Lower Lake junior Azuree Meza, Middletown senior Tabi Johnston and Kelseyville junior Morgan Profitt were named. Other honorable mentions went to Willits junior Amanda Mason, St. Helena senior Claire Griffin, Fort Bragg senior Jamie Mertle and Cloverdale senior Bailey Stewart.
