Kelseyville >> Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake has donated $3,000 for replacement of furniture at Freedom House, Lake County’s only domestic violence shelter run by Lake Family Resource Center (Lake FRC).
The Big Valley Rancheria has also given support of the domestic violence program. Individual rooms at Freedom House are open for “adoption,” which allows organizations to decorate, purchase furniture and make frequent visits to update the adopted room. Big Valley Rancheria will be designing their adopted room with a Native American theme.
Lake Family Resource Center has operated Freedom House for 16 years, providing a safe living environment for men, women and children whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence.
In 2014, 65 women, two men and 67 children passed through the doors of Freedom House. Although at capacity many times, the philosophy of Freedom House is “we are never full.”
Over the years, the furniture has become worn down, but because of these donations, Freedom House will now be able to update half of the eight individual bedrooms which will help fleeing families feel at home and provide a more comfortable and accessible living environment.
Lake FRC provides a multitude of services to build family stability and strength. The agency supports Lake County residents in achieving stable, self-sufficient and healthy families and communities. Call (707) 279-0563 to find out more.
