Nice >> Authorities have named Maria Socorro Medina as the woman who died in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning along Highway 20 and Carson Street in Nice.
The 65-year-old Redwood Valley resident reportedly lost control of her Toyota Corolla rounding a curve, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The car went off the road hit and embankment causing it to roll and crash into a tree.
CHP Sgt. Brian Engle reported that they victim attempted an illegal pass at the time of the incident, which was reported at about 6:15 a.m.
Firefighters and medical personnel arrived, but pronounced the woman dead at the scene. She was still wearing her safety belt.
