Lower Lake >> Community Care HIV/AIDS Program (CCHAP) is soliciting support for Lake County’s 8th annual AIDS Walk. The proceeds from this event support services to people living with HIV/AIDS in Lake County, as well as education, outreach, and prevention to the population at large.

According to CCHAP, state funding for HIV/AIDS support programs has been significantly reduced over the past few years. Many of the services their clients count on have been cut back severely. AIDS Walk will help them continue to support our clients with care management, some financial and housing assistance, and support groups. CCHAP is also a leader in providing HIV prevention education to young people — alarmingly, one of the fastest growing populations affected by HIV/AIDS. Last year they began a testing program, and they are the only agency in Lake County to provide free, anonymous rapid HIV testing for the community.

The walk will be held on Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Library Park in Lakeport. Registration and donation information must be received by August 15 to be included in this year’s walk. All donations are tax deductible.

For information on the event, including how to sign up, call 995-1606.
