Mike Smith of Upper Lake High School basketball was the Record-Bee’s Coach of the Year award winner last season in girls’ sports based on the Cougars’ achievements during the 2013-14 sports season. He is a candidate for the award again in 2014-15 after leading Upper Lake to a 22-5 record. The Record-Bee will honor Coach of the Year winners in both girls’ and boys’ sports in the coming weeks. Ed Fuchs of Lower Lake wrestling won the boys’ award last season. Like Smith, he had an even better 2014-15 campaign. There are several candidates for the boys’ and girls’ awards this season.
