Lucerne >> An unidentified woman is dead from blunt force trauma sustained in a crash in which her vehicle vaulted over a 6-foot-tall outbuilding Thursday afternoon.
The driver was heading westbound on Highway 20 approaching Grove Street at an undetermined high rate of speed for the existing roadway conditions, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Rob Hearn stated in his report. As the 2007 Buick exited a sweeping left curve in the roadway, the woman allowed the car to travel across the double-yellow lines and into an eastbound lane.
She apparently over corrected and lost control, sending the vehicle off the north road edge, Hearn stated. The driver struck a series of trees in front of the Sandbeach Trailer Lodge and was propelled over the wooden outbuilding crashing into two separate trailers before the Buick landed on its wheels between them and the outbuilding.
Emergency personnel deployed life saving measures, but the woman was unrestrained during the time of the collision and succumbed to her injuries at the scene, Hearn reported.
Even though the residents of both trailers were home they went unharmed.
Initial reports from CHP indicated the vehicle was a Thunderbird. Investigators also dedicated hours to determining the sequence of the accident. A report issued late Thursday evening clarified the details.
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
