First, it was a 1960’s TV series. Then it was a 1980’s TV series. Then it was a blockbuster movie in the 90’s. Today, it’s still there in reruns. Yes — it’s “Mission Impossible.”
The original, classic shows began with Agent Jim Phelps getting a tape and some photos describing a mission that was virtually — well, impossible. The voice on the tape would say, “Your mission, Jim, should you choose to accept it is …” followed by something like “capture the entire Bolivian Army by Tuesday, OK?” Then the tape would self-destruct in a puff of smoke.
Well, Mr. Phelps would get to work assembling his team, and the rest of the story would be about how they pulled off this assignment that was supposedly “undoable.”
Your assignment today, should you choose to accept it, is to remember the men and women serving in our armed forces today. One significant way to accomplish this is to support Operation Tango Mike (OTM) by making a donation or helping pack care packages to be sent to the troops. We meet each third Thursday of the month at Umpqua Bank, located at 805 11th St. in Lakeport, at 6 p.m. All willing workers are welcome. Remember the old saying, “many hands make light work.”
