Defining terrorism

Rick Santorum called the Charleston massacre a terrorist attack. This brought to mind Bill O’Reilly.

So here’s the story. Bill was on “The View” TV show and said that Muslims killed us on 9/11. Two of the ladies walked off stage at that point and I thought, how rude. Rather than argue their point they walked off.

So I went to O’Reilly’s website to see what his take was on this. He thought it was rude as well, but then he said something that made me lose all respect for Mr. O’Reilly. He said, “If there were any moderate Muslims they wouldn’t have killed us (on 9/11).” How naive can O’Reilly be? He was an international reporter, after all. Didn’t he learn anything? So when Rick Santorum classed the Charleston massacre “terrorism,” did he mean to say there are no moderate US citizens?

You have to be taught

As are a lot of people, I am having a big problem trying to fathom the life path that led to the young man’s recent actions in the Carolina church. Although I hope it was so, I cannot conceive he developed the path by himself. I am sure (for myself) he had “help” from other warped minds along the way.

Makes me think of a song from the late 1940s musical “South Pacific” concerning the reaction to a liaison between a young Navy man and a Polynesian girl and the resulting eruption of prejudice. The song’s title was “You have to be carefully taught”!

I am not proud of our progress. — Guff Worth, Lakeport
