Lakeport >> The Lakeport Yacht club is holding the 7th annual Cardboard and Duct Tape Regatta July 4 at Library Park by the First Street launch ramp. Signups start at 9:30 a.m. and races start at 11 a.m. This free event is sponsored by the Cathy Fowler Auto Dealership.

Categories are ages 6 to 12, 13 to 19, adults and a new category, seniors 65 and over.

Boats can be any size and shape, but built with cardboard and duct tape only. Cheaters will be labeled Pirates and made to walk the plank. Life jackets are mandatory. Paddles can be any material. YouTube has instructions.

In an effort to bring more awareness to the county’s program against the quagga mussels, the Lakeport Yacht Club is requiring that all Cardboard and Duct Tape boats have a sticker as required by the county. The club will provide stickers for free, courtesy of the Water Resources Department. Sticker must be on or in the boat before launching.

Trophies will be given to the first three finishers in each category.
