LAKE COUNTY >> The federal trial against Jonathan Antonio Mota, who is accused of murdering Kelseyville man Forrest Seagrave in January of 2013, has been delayed.
According to court documents, the postponement is at the request of Mota — who is representing himself — to allow more time to review materials.
By requesting the extension, Mota is waiving his right to a speedy trial.
Approximately 700 hours of video surveillance, 50,000 pages of material and 500 audio recordings of different lengths have been submitted, most of the documents are telephone records. Mota informed the court he has two boxes of discovery to review.
Seagrave was shot on Jan. 18, 2013 during a robbery at the Mt. Konocti 76 Station Store 24, which is on the corner of Main Street and Douglas Road. He was 33 at the time and had worked at the store for six years.
When the case does go to trial, it is anticipated to last approximately one month.
Mota faces six felony charges that include the murder of Seagrave with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, robbery affecting interstate commerce, firearm and ammunition forfeiture. He awaits trial in federal custody.
In memory of Seagrave, the Lake County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution of intent to rename Douglas Road to Forrest’s Road on June 23. A public hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 21 to determine if the name change will be implemented.
