UKIAH >> In a sweeping decision on June 9, the Mendocino College Foundation Board of Directors unanimously approved spending $80,000 from their reserve funds to provide the financial support for 2015 high school graduates in Lake and Mendocino counties to enroll at Mendocino College in the up-coming academic year.

“Forty 2015 high school graduates representing Ukiah, Willits, Lakeport, Kelseyville and Fort Bragg High Schools have each received a $2,000 scholarship to attend Mendocino College in the fall and spring,” stated Foundation President, Richard Cooper.

The two new scholarships are aptly called the Achieve and Believe Scholarships. Recipients of the Believe Scholarship are students with a demonstrated financial need who do not qualify for financial aid or other assistance. The Achieve Scholarships are for students who have completed their A-G, CSU or UC transfer requirements.

“The Foundation Board found themselves in a wonderful position to spend some reserve funds in support of student success,” according to Charley Myers, Foundation Vice President. The Foundation’s mission is to support Mendocino College in educating leaders, fostering intellectual growth and enriching lives by creating opportunities to invest in a better future for our students and communities.”
