Clearlake >> Woodland Community College in Woodland was selected by Schools.com as one of the top community colleges in California based on affordability, accessibility, retention, and graduation and transfer rates.
Key success indicators from the National Center of Education Statistics, and the University of California and California State University systems were used to find and rank the best community colleges in California.
Ranked as number 14 on the list, Schools.com accredited some of the school’s success to its small student body size, which gives it a high student-to-faculty ratio, as well as a high combined UC-CSU transfer rate.
Yuba Community College District Chancellor Douglas Houston said, “What an honor to be listed as one of the top community colleges in California. It’s outstanding to see a rural school like Woodland Community College ranked so high compared to other more urban and suburban schools. It’s a real testament to the faculty, staff and administration at the college. The students and community should be extremely proud of this accomplishment.”
The methodology to rank the 112 schools in the California Community College system used a 10 point scale and six data points and weighted values: Percentage of students enrolled in distance education; Total cost of attendance, including tuition & fees plus books & supplies; Student-to-faculty ratio; Retention rate for both full-time and part-time students; Graduation rate; and Number of transfers to the University of California and California State University systems per 1,000 students.
