Kelseyville >> A man upset his sleep was disturbed reportedly shot a gun inside a home and barricaded himself in for five hours Wednesday night before deputies forced their way in early Thursday morning.
Danny Jay Barnes was allegedly intoxicated when he grabbed a rifle and discharged it into the floor of the home on the 6000 block of Gold Dust Drive in Kelseyville. He pointed the gun at a family member and told him to leave the room, at which point Barnes locked the door, Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Lt. Steve Brooks stated.
LCSO deputies arrived at the scene at about 7:45 p.m. and were later joined by California Highway Patrol officers and Kelseyville Fire Protection District emergency responders. Barnes, 56, reportedly refused to cooperate when they told him to step outside with his hands above his head. Instead, he remained inside and allegedly yelled at officers to leave him alone, Brooks stated. One deputy claimed he saw Barnes move a window curtain with the barrel of the rifle and pointed it at him.
Law enforcement obtained warrants to search the home and arrest Barnes.
On Thursday at 12:45 a.m., the LCSO Special Weapons and Tactics Team busted in and took Barnes into custody without further incident or harm. After securing the room, the team conducted a search and seized five firearms.
Barnes was charged with discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, exhibiting a firearm and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a peace officer. He was transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and booked with bail set at $15,000.
