Upper Lake >> The next Redwood Empire Civil War Roundtable will explore the history of the Confederate battle flag from its creation down to the present day. The meeting will be held at the Tallman Hotel starting at 6:15 p.m.

In addition to flag discussion, Janis Traub will begin a series on Reconstruction. Traub, a former teacher and amateur historian, has put together the three-part series on Reconstruction, the first dealing with the politics of reconstruction. Reconstruction refers to the period following the Civil War of rebuilding the United States. It was a time of great upheaval. On what terms would the Confederacy be allowed back into the Union? Who would establish the terms, Congress or the president? What was to be the place of freed blacks in the South? Traub will explore these and many other issues related to the Reconstruction period.

The Civil War roundtable meets once a month to discuss topics related to that war, and is attempting to review the war month by month. The group was founded to coincide with the sesquicentennial of the conflict. Topics are presented in a manner that can be enjoyed by novice and expert alike. Future topics will expand to include some topics related to World War One, to observe the centennial of that conflict.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
