Clearlake >> Police K-9 Dex firmly held on to a fugitive he caught as the man pulled him over a wire fence in an effort to flee from officers Tuesday afternoon. The bite led to an arrest.
Clearlake Police Department (CPD) officers saw Devin Walker go inside a home located near the 15000 block of 29th Avenue at about 12:42 p.m. Tuesday. Walker, 23, had outstanding felony warrants issued for his arrest including assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a police officer and vandalism.
The officers attempted to contact Walker at the home, but while they spoke with the residents, Walker allegedly ran out from the back, Lt. Tim Celli stated in a media release. Officers chased after Walker, issuing numerous commands for him to stop.
Walker continued to run, however, jumping over fences through nearby properties, Celli stated. After what officers called a lengthy pursuit, Walker was finally boxed in near 15900 block of 26th Avenue.
He allegedly ignored numerous commands to stop and ignored warnings that a police K-9 would be deployed. Walker attempted to climb over a wire fence to an adjacent property and Dex apprehended Walker, biting him in the leg. Walker pulled the police K-9 over the fence with him while Dex continued to bite him. Walker was taken into custody without further incident. He suffered a minor laceration from the bite and was treated at St. Helena Hospital, Clear Lake then booked to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
Dex was not injured during the apprehension.
