Lakeport >> Officers arrested a man who was reportedly intoxicated on a motorcycle going nearly twice the speed limit on Lakeport streets early Saturday morning.
Sgt. Gary Basor first noticed Michael William Lockett speeding on a Harley Davidson leaving the Clearlake Club on Main Street just after 1:30 a.m. The Lakeport officer followed and turned on his emergency lights. Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly turned on North High Street, then 20th Street where he accelerated and continued onto Hartley Street, according to a report from Lakeport Police Department (LPD) Sgt. Michael Sobieraj.
The motorcycle reached speeds of more than 50 mph in the residential area, reportedly failing to stop at signs along the way.
Two more LPD officers joined the pursuit, with one attempting to block the Lockett’s path on Hartley Street but was unable to do so. The motorcycle crashed westbound on Clearlake Avenue; Lockett lost control turning onto Pool Street and fell down an embankment. He allegedly took off running through the thick brush toward Mellor Drive, Sobieraj stated, but officers ran after him and were finally able to catch up to Lockett and make an arrest.
Lakeport Fire Protection District emergency responders transported him to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for medical clearance. Lockett was later booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and charged with felony evading a police officer with disregard for public safety and misdemeanor driving under the influence.
