LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Board of Supervisors will hold two public hearings regarding road names today. If approved, an unnamed road off of Bachelor Valley Road in Upper Lake will be known as Patty Lane for identification purposes.
However, the potential renaming of Douglas Road in Kelseyville has a more sentimental meaning.
The road’s proposed new name — Forrest Road — intends to honor the late Forrest Seagrave of Kelseyville. On Jan. 18, 2013, Seagrave was shot during a robbery at the Mt. Konocti 76 Station Store 24, which is located on the corner of Main Street and Douglas Road. He was 33 at the time.
Mary Behrens, Seagrave’s mother, requested the name change.
“People, from both in and out of the area, had a good impression of the place because of meeting and spending time with Forrest,” Behrens stated in her request. “He did not contribute a building or a park or anything like that, but Forrest did contribute to a positive ambiance for Kelseyville.”
The proposal has gained tremendous support.
“All of the owners of the property fronting the road … have signed the request,” Lake County Public Works Director Scott De Leon said.
Seagrave’s accused killer, Jonathon Antonio Mota, faces six felony charges that include the murder of Seagrave with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, robbery affecting interstate commerce, firearm and ammunition forfeiture. He awaits trial in federal custody.
“[Seagrave] wasn’t a doctor or a lawyer or a politician,” Behrens stated. “He wasn’t rich so he didn’t contribute monetarily. But he did … contribute to the betterment of life in Kelseyville. He was a prototype, perhaps, of the type of person we want in Kelseyville and an image of what we would like Kelseyville to be.”
The board passed resolutions of intent for both requests. Patty Lane’s resolution was passed on July 7, while Forrest Road was passed on June 23.
As for maintenance of the roads, Patty Lane is not in the county-maintained road system, but Forrest Road is and will continue to be maintained by the county.
