CLEARLAKE OAKS >> Forty people including members and guests attended the June installation at the Keys Clubhouse in Clearlake Oaks of the 2015-2016 officers for the local Soroptimist club. Special guest Shannon Richards, Fellowship Director, Founder Region District III, included a special ceremony as she installed the following officers: President Olga Martin-Steele, Vice President Brenda Crandall, Secretary Ami Landrum, Treasurer Kelley Slater, Vice Treasurer Rosemary Dontje, Public Relations Director Marsha Willard and Director Sally Munger.

Soroptimist International of Clear Lake (SICL) celebrated 51 years in May; it is part of an international organization with a mission to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. SICL is dedicated to supporting women and girls through scholarships, programs that support high school girls and young moms, donations to local non-profits, free mammograms and more.

President Olga Martin-Steele has chosen “Creating Leaders: Connecting with Community” as her 2015-2016 theme. Connecting girls with community leaders through club projects is a way to inspire them to achieve their greatest leadership potential. She believes that by reinforcing the important roll business and community leaders play in shaping a path for future leaders, that SICL can be more effective in achieving its mission. After all, Soroptimist means “best for women.” Soroptimist women are at their best working to help other women be their best.

For more information call President Olga Martin- Steele at 998-1302 or email the club at siclearlake@soroptimist.net. Club meetings are held the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Howard’s Grotto at noon.
