Lakeport >> Konocti Senior Support’s next 18 hour Senior Peer Counseling Basic Training begins Thursday, July 30 in Lakeport and runs six consecutive Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The subsequent sessions will be on Aug. 6, Aug. 13, Aug. 20, Aug. 27 and Sept. 3.
The first meeting will be held at 380 N. Main St., Lakeport and rotate around the Lake. Handouts with locations and directions will be given out at the first meeting.
LMFT licensed psychotherapist/director Barbara Nuckols holds weekly sessions to prepare and supervise volunteers who provide seniors with free, paraprofessional counseling in their homes or at Senior and Wellness Centers.
Volunteers learn compassionate listening, effective coping and strong communication skills while helping others with issues of loss and grieving, difficult transitions and negative patterns of relating.
