UKIAH >> Lauren Rudnick of the Lake County Channel Cats won all nine of her events during the annual Ukiah Dolphins Soroptimist Swim Meet last weekend in Ukiah.

Rudnick was among 13 Channel Cats taking part in the meet, which attracted 300 swimmers in all. Diego Tejeda also brought home two firsts.

Other Channel Cats taking part included Riley Lopez, Sebastian Chavez, Brooke Hinchcliff, Madelyn Madrzyk, Jadyn Copas, Jenna Williams, Liam Wayment, Max Madrzyk, Danielle Erickson, Nikki Hanson and Emma Larson.

Lopez and Chavez, both age 7, were the youngest Channel Cats taking part in the meet. Lopez finished ninth in the 50-yard backstroke while Chavez was 14th in the same event.

The Channel Cats practice at the Westshore Pool and have 190 members.

“The Channel Cats have never had so many swimmers in the water,” president Jennifer Hanson said. “Our main mission is to teach Lake County kids to swim and this summer we have exceeded our expectations. The pool is packed every evening with new swimmers and veteran swimmers, all anxious to improve their swimming abilities. We would like to thank the city of Lakeport for their continuing efforts to keep our kids safe by providing a pool where we can teach them to swim.”
