Lake County >> Auditions for the Lake County Theatre Company’s holiday play, “A Tuna Christmas,” a will be held on Wednesday a in Lakeport and on Aug. 8 in Clearlake.
This is the sequel to “Greater Tuna,” which was performed at the Lower Lake Schoolhouse Museum about 10 years ago.
The “Tuna” plays part withering satire of small town Southern life, but a more than equal part affectionate comedic reflection on the same. The cast of more than 20 colorful characters all reside in the town of Tuna, Texas, the third smallest town in the state. What is especially unusual about this play is that, despite the large number of characters, there are only two actors.
That’s right; each actor will portray more than 10 different roles, each with a different look and sound. Director Randy Hare is seeking two actors, male or female, ages 20-50 for the roles. Performers must be up to the challenge of learning not only several lines, but also several different personalities and voices. Male actors must be comfortable portraying a female, and vice-versa.
Auditions will be held on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Main Street Gallery in Lakeport, and Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. at 14092 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake (look for the building with the “For Lease” sign out front). Those auditioning may prepare a comical monologue if desired, but it isn’t a requirement. They will need to be ready to read sections of the script and show off their best character and vocal work.
Performances are scheduled for the first three weekends in December at the Lower Lake Schoolhouse Museum.
