Lakeport >> A police volunteer has been accused of attempting to commit a sexual act with a minor.
Larry Howerton was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility, where he was charged with one felony count for the alleged crime, Lakeport Police Department (LPD) Lt. Jason Ferguson reported.
The LPD, which according to Ferguson immediately fired Howerton from his position, served a search warrant for his home to gather evidence for its ongoing investigation into the alleged incident. They are receiving assistance from the Lake County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation and Victim/Witness Divisions. Ferguson was unable to disclose further details at this time due to the investigation.
