Lake County >> An inmate was reportedly found dead at the county jail Sunday afternoon.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Dara Gaunt was alone in her holding cell when correctional staff discovered her unresponsive during a routine check just before 2:30 p.m. Medical staff were called in, but unable to revive the 56-year-old Santa Rosa resident.
The Lake County District Attorney’s Office has taken over the case and is conducting an independent investigation, Lt. Steve Brooks said in a press statement. “The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is cooperating completely with the district attorney’s investigation, and is also conducting its own investigation into the death,” he added.
