Appreciate the public

I want to commend the Konocti Unified School District for the recent substitute Teacher Orientation Day August 6, and at the same time comment on the Board of Supervisors’ attitude toward the public.

Recent statistics and test scores have pointed out the need for change within the Konocti School District, and it is obvious that the district has taken on the challenge, developing innovative programs, new schools, and collaboration within the district between teachers, substitute teachers, parents and students.

We are asked what we think, and two way dialogue was sought by Tom Hoskins, who led our activities, promising to share our responses to teachers and staff.

I can only conclude that recent troubling statistics regarding poverty, health, death rates, and suicide rates in Lake County have prompted those within the district to hire counselors at each school, announce free tutoring opportunities for students, and develop new approaches and innovative programs, including a school for the arts and a school for those interested in medicine.

While these changes may be funded and mandated by higher ups in the State Education Department, the welcoming and open attitude at the orientation yesterday created a good feeling among us. I felt appreciated and more committed, a part of a team working together, “Climbing to New Heights” (the motto shared at the orientation in the materials presented.”

We have experienced an example of teamwork in the wonderful efforts of fire crews, who travelled to come rescue us from the dangers of the recent fires that threatened our safety and our lives. The Thank-you Posters all over Lake County attest to the appreciation we all feel for those efforts.

I believe all of us who attend the Lake County Supervisors on Tuesdays want to help, to give input, and be appreciated for those efforts. Why is it a Supervisor, Chairman Anthony Farrington, asked in these words, “Do I have to let her talk?” when I stood up to give public comment during a recent code enforcement appeal hearing?

I hope that in the future, I and other members of the public will be welcomed with a comment like, “Can I allow public comment during this hearing?”

The public has a right to speak, and to know the facts, to ask questions and share information. We need to work together as a county.

A word for the VA

The other day, the San Francisco VA called me to check on my well being. They asked if I had been displaced from the fire, needed meds, etc. When was the last time your healthcare professional did that for you?

Government healthcare does work!

Foreclosure Problems

I appreciate our County supervisors looking into the foreclosure problems that we have had in the past and that are still ongoing regarding mortgage fraud. Even thought some lending institutions got their hands slapped big time, many just have new tricks regarding the same old program. Our Board of Supervisors have a lot of guts when they held the hearing to investigate this more deeply. Because there were people explaining exactly what crooked activity happened to them personally, and a lot of the money that was suppose to come back to the public in several counties in the state are just sitting in the California state capital as a slush fund for the powers to be, when the monies were suppose to come to the counties and to the people that were wronged. The Board has looked at hiring an attorney to do research so they have all the legal facts. The attorney they are hiring is very, very familiar with this field of expertise. We should all be very proud of what our officials have done for us.

Lets all hope for the best.

Trump or tragedy

That Donald Trump should be President is debatable. That Trump should receive an Oscar is not. The Donald’s portrayal of a megalomaniac, wannabe President is perfection. How can anyone miss that Il Duce scowl from atop the podium? How can anyone miss the constant use of “I” as in “I will build a nice wall,” “I will negotiate with the Chinese,” “I will make the Mexican government pay…” and on and on? Indeed, on Trump’s plane and buildings, it does not say, “Trump et al.” The message is “Trump” because The Donald does not play well with others.

Will Trump become President? Of course not! There must be a tragedy or at least a serious melodrama that prevents the Donald from being the savior of the American people. This tragedy may come in the form of betrayal by the Republican National Committee. The tragedy may be in a cabal, formed by the billionaire backers of the other candidates, that derail The Donald’s candidacy. Regardless, Trump’s broken dream to save America will not be his fault, but the evil forces that he attempted to tame, but in the end could not control.

But The Donald will triumph. After all, he says, “I am the rating machine,” and how much better can publicity get than in playing the martyred, tragic Savior, more sinned against than sinning? Indeed, in 2017, one of the most popular shows on television will be “Trump, The Candidate: A Study in Betrayal.” After all, the whole point in Trump’s candidacy is ratings, now and forever.
