Clearlake >> Highlands Senior Service Center is looking for volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers to cover their Clearlake/Clearlake Park delivery route.

This route is about 13 miles in length and takes around two hours to complete. On-call and backup drivers are also needed, sometimes on very short notice.

Highlands Senior Center serves Meals on Wheels clients in the Clearlake, Clearlake Park and Lower Lake areas, five days a week, except for holidays. Volunteer drivers are reimbursed for their mileage and need to have a valid license and a registered, insured car.

Meals on Wheels is a vital program that couldn’t exist without volunteers. The Meals on Wheels clients are some of the most vulnerable individuals in the community, persons aged 60 and over, homebound by reason of illness or disability, unable to shop or cook for themselves, and with no one to shop or cook for them. Sometimes the Meals on Wheels driver is the only person that the homebound clients see each day, and sometimes the meal delivered by the volunteer drivers is the only meal the clients have to eat that day.

Call 994-3051 for more information on how you can volunteer to help deliver meals. If you can’t volunteer but would like to support the Highlands Senior Center Meals on Wheels program, send your donations to HSSC at P.O. Box 180, Clearlake, CA 95422 or stop by the office at 3245 Bowers Ave. in Clearlake.
