KELSEYVILLE >> Thirteen-year-old Leilani Alvarez, a member of the Kelseyville Junior Giants, is the recipient of the first Junior Giants Commissioner’s Award.
Alvarez received the honor during recent closing day ceremonies where volunteers and players were recognized for their contributions during the 2015 season.
The Commissioner’s Award is earned by a Junior Giants player who best exemplifies citizenship, dedication, teamwork and self-confidence and who has successfully participated in the Junior Giants program.
Alvarez was recognized, in part, for her work as a junior coach. Accepting the job of junior coach in the Junior Giants means that rather than playing with her peers, Alvarez gave of herself and her time to help younger players develop their skills and character.
Alvarez received the Commissioner’s Award from Kelseyville Junior Giants Commissioner Dan Camacho and Assistant Commissioner Rick Mather.
Junior Giants is sponsored by the Lake County Sheriff’s Activity League.
