Kelseyville >> Taylor Observatory is offering a science camp for children ages 5 and older at the observatory on Saturday, Aug. 15 starting at 9 a.m. Parents are required to stay with ages 5 through 7.

Science camp is an ideal way to inspire and engage your child in the fun of real science. Experience the science and art of bubbles, engage in hands on activities as you watch energy transform from one form to another, make a glider, and more.

Children can join in for the day or individual 60 minute sessions.

9 a.m., “Science and Art of Bubbles”: What is it about bubbles? They fascinate all of us, no matter what age we are! Create your own bubble art, see bubble colors and shapes change, feel the surface tension and most of all enjoy.

10 a.m., “Energy Lab”: See a wire dance, feel the heat and cold produced as energy is converted. Move through a variety of stations as you explore these changes and engage in hands-on demonstrations.

11 a.m. “The Science of Flight”: Have you ever wondered what makes an airplane be able to fly? Learn about the science of aeronautics and how engineers make air travel one of the safest, fastest, and reliable form of transportation. Build your own glider and test how far it will go.

1 p.m., “The Science of Ice Cream”: What does something as fun as ice cream have to do with science? Come learn about the properties of ice cream that makes it very fun to eat and how it is made.

2 p.m., “Constellations”: Have you ever played “connect the dots” with the stars before? For thousands of year, humans have been playing “connect the dots” with the stars forming the modern day constellations. Join us in the planetarium and learn about the constellations. Afterwards make your own constellation to take home.
