Playing competitive football against the big boys of the North Central League I will be one of the tasks facing first-year Kelseyville High School varsity football head coach Erick Larsen (holding clipboard), who knows a thing or two about winning games after leading the varsity Kelseyville Chiefs — the community’s youth football program — to a 10-0 record last season. In fact, all three of Kelseyville’s youth squads went undefeated in 2014. While the Knights have hovered around the .500 mark the last two seasons, they have not been a match for the elite of the NCL I, namely St. Helena, Middletown and Fort Bragg. With Lower Lake also making a big push to join the league’s upper echelon, Larsen and his assistant coaches certainly have their work cut out. The Knights were busy on Thursday night getting ready for their season opener Aug. 28 at home against De Anza of El Sobrante.
