More than 1,000 people attended opening ceremonies on Saturday at Middletown High School as a new Clearlake Youth Soccer League season opened with 375 players competing on 34 teams with action in the under-6, under-8, under-10, under-12 and under-14 divisions. While the CYSL has been existence for many years, this was the first time opening day ceremonies have been held, an idea brought to fruition by a new board of directors led by president Eddie Rubio. Members of the United States Marine Corps presented the colors while Jade Holling sang the national anthem. Coaches and assistant coaches were introduced prior to the start of play. As part of a league fundraiser, each team made baskets that were raffled off at the end of the day. There were two bounce houses in operation as well as cotton candy and shaved ice machines. Games ran well into the afternoon.
