Lakeport >> It’s been almost a century since they died, but two Civil War veterans finally had a grave dedication ceremony by the The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2015, Lake County Honors Team and the Patriot Guard Riders at Hartley Cemetery Saturday morning.

Born in Ireland, U.S. army privates James Caulfield (1837-1921) of the 136th New York Infantry was 27 when he enlisted at Elba to serve three years on Sept. 15, 1864. He then transferred to the Sixtieth Infantry on June 12, 1865.

Also an immigrant, U.S. army private Michael Trafz (1826-1916) of the Wisconsin Light Artillery First Independent Battery was born in Hamburg, Germany. He came to America at age 6 and was raised in Ohio.
