Clearlake >> Being a Rotarian is all about service to the community. Seven members of the Clearlake Rotary combine that idea of service with a life-long love of music. The Rotarianz, a classic rock cover band, have been practicing in a member’s garage in preparation for their gig at the upcoming Children’s Museum of Art and Science (CMAS) fundraiser dinner on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The performance takes place at the Aromas Café on the Yuba College campus.

While the band members have been making music all their lives, they have been playing together for about a year. Bill MacDougall plays bass while Dr. Mark Cooper and Ken Ling beat a thumping rhythm on the drums. Cooper said he has been playing the drums since fifth grade. Dr. Jack Elizares plays the guitar and ukulele. He confided that he first learned to play the ukulele from his father, who was born and raised in Hawaii. He said he is happy to have found a group that will let him play the electric ukulele in some numbers. Richard Bean plays guitar and is the lead singer, with some songs also sung by D Parker. Kinene Barzin, current Rotary President, plays keyboard and is the person to contact at 350-3273 to book the band. They will play for free at community events but need to be booked well in advance.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the Travel Center in Lakeport, Marie’s Feed in Clearlake, by calling 994-2878 or by emailing marthabakerjian@yahoo.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Proceeds from this event are used to fund free art and science activities, like the Rocket Club, the Lego robot workshops and the annual art and science camp, put on by CMAS for the youth of Lake County.
