SANTA ROSA >> Rachel Wingler played offense and defense for the Clear Lake High School varsity volleyball team in its 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 non-league victory over Rincon Valley Christian on Thursday evening in Santa Rosa.
Wingler, an outside hitter, led the Cardinals (2-0) with 12 kills and 15 digs.
“She was scooping up everything they were hitting at us,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said of the senior.
Jasmine Rice added five kills and junior varsity call-up Valerie Hutton, a sophomore, added four kills and two blocks.
“They played really well. Our passing game is tremendously improved from last year,” Psalmonds said.
Another solid night passing the ball also helped, according to Psalmonds, who praised the play of Alicia Ledesma and Eloisa Morfin.

St. Vincent def. M’town
At Petaluma, Middletown’s setters and hitters had a tough night connecting and the St. Vincent Mustangs took advantage, beating Middletown 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 in non-league action.
“We did everything else well … digging, passing, serve receive,” Middletown coach Jennifer Breiner said.
Abby Aden led the Mustangs (1-1) with 10 kills and Emily Lescher had three kills, five blocks and four aces.
Lower Lake def. Upper Lake
At Upper Lake, in a non-league battle between two varsity teams searching for their first win of the season, the Lower Lake Trojans rallied past the Upper Lake Cougars 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 despite the best efforts of Natalie Karlsson (nine kills, 13 assists, 18 digs, 13 points, six aces) and Christina Wilson (eight kills, 18 digs, nine points, two aces).
Shably Navarro had 14 digs and three blocks for the Cougars while Isabel Rorabaugh added six kills and seven digs.
Leading the victorious Trojans were Brooke Taliaferro with 12 kills, Ashlynn Mock with seven kills and five aces, Jolean Scarborough with six kills, and Bailey DeLong with three kills and four aces.
Lower Lake is 1-2 on the season and Upper Lake 0-3.

At Middletown, the Middletown Mustangs built a 2-1 halftime lead before Anderson Valley rallied in the second half for the non-league victory.
“They are a very good team and a very technical team and we had a hard time adapting to it,” Middletown coach Luis Chairez said of the Panthers’ style of play.
Jorge Morales and Jake Sampson scored in the first half for the Mustangs (2-1-1), who suffered their first loss of the season.
Anderson Valley scored four unanswered goals in the second half before Middletown’s Victor Lopez broke the string, scoring on a free-kick header late in the game.
“Overall a pretty good game with a lot of learning points for us,” Chairez said. “I’m happy with the whole team, we’re really starting to move forward.”
