Lakeport >> A teenage autistic boy was found dead in the water off a boat ramp in downtown Lakeport early Friday morning.
The 13-year-old was last seen near the area of First Street and reported missing shortly after midnight.
At that time, Lakeport police officers immediately began an investigation and search. They sent out a series of public alerts notifying residents of the missing child, asking them to contact the department if found.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team quickly responded to coordinate search efforts as well, Lakeport police stated.
Operations continued through the early morning hours as patrol teams combed the downtown area.
At 4:30 a.m., the boy’s body was discovered in the water off of the end of Third Street boat ramp in Lakeport.
According to authorities investigating the incident, it appears that the death is accidental. However, a Lakeport police detective has been assigned to conduct a complete investigation.
