LAKEPORT >> Jake Jackson returned the opening kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown as Clear Lake jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, but the Durham Trojans came storming back to thump the Cardinals 50-7 in non-league varsity football action Friday night in Lakeport.
It was the season opener for the Cardinals (0-1) and the second straight win for Durham (2-0).
Jackson eventually replaced Tyler Dore at quarterback after the Cardinals’ starting signal caller went down with an ankle injury in the second quarter.
Durham led 14-7 after one quarter, 29-7 at halftime and 44-7 through three quarters.
Stevie Diaz led the Cardinals with 42 rushing yards and he also picked off a Durham pass.
