HEALDSBURG >> Patrick Mick and Brian Carillo scored five touchdowns between them and the Kelseyville Knights overpowered Healdsburg 51-15 in non-league junior varsity football action on Friday night at Recreation Park.
It was the season opener for the Knights, a team largely dominated by freshmen.
“It’s a good freshman group,” Kelseyville coach Jeremy Linnell said. “Many of them played on a 10-0 youth team last year.”
Mick led the Knights (1-0) with 132 yards rushing on only seven carries, including two touchdowns. Carillo, a freshman running back and defensive end, ran for one score, caught another and returned a fumble that he caused 25 yards for a third touchdown.
“You’ll be hearing a lot more about him,” Linnell said. “He’s really good.”
Anchoring the Kelseyville defense were J.D. Prescott with 10 solo tackles and five assists and Carillo with seven solo stops, one sack, two tipped passes and the fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Dominant line play powered the Knights to a 38-3 halftime lead.
“We used all backups in the second half,” Linnell said.
Kelseyville’s JVs return to action Friday night in Esparto at 5:30 p.m. There is no varsity game.
