Most of us know how the local senior centers enrich our community by serving our aging adults. You may not be aware of all the activities that are echoing through their rooms. Who doesn’t love a great game of bingo, bridge, or cribbage? Strengthen your body and balance through tai chi. Senior center calendars are filled with art classes, sewing, quilting and exercise classes. Check out the computer classes, movies and line dancing. Jazz Chorus … where do I sign up?

Hopefully we are all encouraging those we know to get involved with their local senior center. They can enjoy the company of their neighbors and friends by having a delicious meal and getting involved in interesting activities.

Did you know that you do not have to be a “senior” to participate at a senior center?

You could …

Support your local senior center by attending fundraisers: spaghetti dinners, open mic night and don’t forget the thrift stores. The thrift stores help support the activities of the senior center. Donate and shop.

Consider volunteering. There are many opportunities for those who would like to donate some of their time to help with answering phones, delivering meals, gardening and helping with the thrift store. Your gifts and talents would be greatly appreciated.

Stop in for a well-balanced meal to support the senior center. By the way, the meatloaf is delicious.

I challenge you to “Celebrate Life” by supporting your local senior center.

Thanks to all the senior center directors, boards, staff, volunteers and contributors. Thank you for all the work that you do. Thank you to all the people responsible for making the senior centers available to serve the community. Let’s celebrate National Senior Center Month.
