LAKEPORT >> Clear Lake Splash In 2015 is just around the corner and there is still space available ashore at the show central display area for seaplanes and float planes. Access for seaplanes to the field begins at Noon on Thursday, Sept. 24.

Lake County Chamber of Commerce executive director Melissa Fulton announced Friday that aircraft with larger wingspans can be accommodated ashore this year because of the recent removal of the large cottonwood tree that obstructed the ramp area for the last 36 years.

“We can now accommodate wingspans of at least 60 feet,” Fulton reported. “The cottonwood tree that has vexed so many pilots over the years is now history, and we are hopeful that this will attract some of the larger airplanes out there.”

This year’s event runs from September 25 to 27 and is the 36th consecutive year that seaplanes and floatplanes from all over the country have gathered at Lakeport’s Natural High School grass field to see and be seen. On Saturday, Sept. 26 there will be aerial demonstrations and the public will be able to get up close and view some of the most unique airplanes in the country. Seaplane rides will be available as well.

The long range weather forecast promises clear skies and typical Lake County Indian summer conditions.

Gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, and general admission to the display area is $3 per person. Children 12 and under are free.
