EUREKA >> Despite missing 18 serves, the Clear Lake Cardinals beat the Eureka Loggers 26-24, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23 in non-league varsity volleyball action on Friday night in Eureka.
“They missed a lot of serves, too,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said of the Loggers. “Once we started getting the serves in, we were fine.”
Rachel Wingler had a big night for the Cardinals (3-1) with 22 kills and seven digs. Setter Emily Psalmonds added 31 assists and 10 digs while middle hitter Valerie Hutton had three kills, three blocks and seven aces.
“They were all tough,” Psalmonds said of the four sets. “There was a lot of back and forth.”
Clear Lake’s northern road swing continues today during the 16-team Arcata Tournament. The Cardinals are one of two Lake County teams participating. Middletown is also entered.
“Most of the schools are from up this way,” Psalmonds said.
Clear Lake also plays a non-league match at Upper Lake on Thursday.
