STOCKTON >> Sophie Sells of Mendocino College fired a 9-over-par 82 to finish as second low individual on Tuesday during a Big 8 Conference women’s golf tournament at Van Buskirk Park Golf Course in Stockton.
Sells, a freshman at Mendocino, graduated from Kelseyville High School in June. She finished four strokes behind tournament medalist Deedra Dollesin of Sierra College. Dollesin carded a 5-over-par 78.
Parker Pilati of Modesto College finished third with 83 and Ana Bonilla of Butte College was fourth with 84. A trio of golfers — Jessica Pisenti and Lauren Coonce of Sierra College, and Taylor Robinson of San Joaquin Delta College — tied for fifth with 86.
The tournament field included 42 golfers.
Sierra College won the team division with 338 (low four scores out of six). Modesto College was second at 353 while San Joaquin Delta was third with 355. Mendocino College finished eighth at 554.
Sells’ 82 was a personal best at the collegiate level. The Big 8 Conference holds its next tournament on Sept. 24 at Napa Municipal Golf Course.
