UPPER LAKE >> Valerie Hutton served up 11 aces and the Clear Lake Cardinals blitzed the Upper Lake Cougars 25-8, 25-12, 25-12 in non-league varsity volleyball action on Thursday night in Upper Lake.
“They could not pick up her ball,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said of Upper Lake serve receive when Hutton was at the line.
Hutton, a sophomore, also had four kills and two blocks.
Rachel Wingler added six kills and six aces, Jasmine Rice had five kills, and Emily Psalmonds, the Cardinals’ setter, finished with 18 assists.
Christina Wilson led the Cougars with six kills and nine digs while Natalie Karlsson had five kills, seven assists and two digs.
Clear Lake rallied to win the junior varsity match 21-25, 25-7, 15-6.

K’ville 4, Willits 3
At Kelseyville, Megan Touros scored three times and Maria Verdugo had another goal as the Kelseyville Knights edged Willits in the North Central League I opener for both teams.
Kelseyville led 2-1 at halftime.
The Knights (2-1) beat South Fork 5-3 on Saturday afternoon in Kelseyville behind two goals from Verdugo.
Clear Lake 1, Fort Bragg 1
At Fort Bragg, Meghan Beare’s goal in the first half gave Clear Lake an early lead and the Cardinals went on to tie Fort Bragg in the league opener for both teams.
Mina Werner assisted on Beare’s goal, which gave Clear Lake (1-6-2) a 1-0 halftime lead. Fort Bragg pulled even 15 minutes into the second half.
“Brooklyn Jenkins did a great job,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said of his keeper.
Boys’ soccer
K’ville 3, Willits 0
At Kelseyville, Giovanni Ruiz, Sergio Arias and Victor Cacho scored goals and the Kelseyville Knights opened their NCL I title defense with an impressive road victory against the Willits Wolverines.
Enrique Cacho, Victor Cacho and Elias Alvarez all picked up assists in the win as Kelseyville improved to 3-0-1 overall.
Keeper Francisco Duarte turned back a handful of strong challenges by a Willits offense that was limited to seven shots.
