LAKE COUNTY >> As Lake County advances in the recovery and repopulation efforts, Lake County Animal Care & Control (Animal Control) is actively working to eliminate public health issues in Middletown by removing animals that perished in the Valley Fire, with support from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Lake Evacuation & Animal Protection (LEAP), the ASPCA and the North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG) from Butte County.

Residents are encouraged to call Animal Control at (707) 263-0278 if they return home and discover they need assistance with this removal process or help locating their animals that may have been rescued. Photographs of these displaced animals have been posted on the Lake County Animal Care &

Controls Facebook page.

“We are focused on rescuing any remaining animals in the damaged areas and providing them with shelter,”said Bill Davidson, director of Lake County Animal Care & Control. “Once our residents are successfully repopulated, our efforts will continue to assist the community with lost and injured animals, and reconnecting as many of them with their owners as possible.”

Most small animals are being housed at the Lakeport Animal Shelter — 4949 Hellbush Drive. Injured animals are currently being treated at the Middletown Animal Hospital, located at 21053 CA-29, Middletown, by local vets and some have been transported to UC Davis.
