Lower Lake >> Hilltop Apostolic Community Church has recently been involved in community outreach, helping those displaced by the Valley Fire and giving supplies to those at various evacuation sites.
This comes after their first-ever Labor day weekend “Hunger Feed” at the Senior Center in Clearlake. Vouchers were given out to the homeless, as could be found. Those who lost vouchers were given one at the door to get a count of how many homeless came to the dinner. The event was intentionally unannounced in the paper to avoid confusion with other community events Hilltop has hosted that were open to the general public, such as the Thanksgiving Feed occurring during November.
“I would like to thank God for giving Hilltop Apostolic Community Church the mind, strength and means to help in our community,” said Pastor Frank LeNard. “Also big thanks to the businesses that donated to the cause. By the Grace of God we are planning on doing more. “
At the beginning, some trickled in but then the crowd grew. Still some of the homeless forgot to show up. In response, Hilltop went out and found a camp where homeless were staying and gave plates to them. About a total of 80 people received meals.
Long-term goals for the church include working with other organizations in the community, such as The Lime Foundation, which helps find work for homeless and offers free training among its many other activities.
