Crews from CalFire and Northshore Fire Protection District mop-up following a three-quarter acre wildland fire Early Sunday afternoon at 19992 East Highway 20 in Clearlake Oaks, about three miles east of New Long Valley Road. It was reported as a structure fire but arriving fire crews found a small brush fire threatening several houses, said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jeremy Lawson. The fire was contained in about 20 minutes with five engine companies and 28 firefighters. Two aircraft and a helicopter assisted along with a bulldozer. Neither structure was damaged. Due to the dangerous fire conditions in Lake County, Cal Fire initially ordered a full wildland fire response but that was cancelled when fire crews arrived and determined they could handle it with the five fire engines already on-scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation. – Ken R. Wells — Lake County Publishing
