Kelseyvlle >> Police arrested a man three days after he escaped from inside a patrol vehicle while still in handcuffs.
Deputies first contacted Edward Dallas Gutierrez on Saturday at a residence in the 10000 block of Point Lakeview Road in Kelseyville with two other people at about 6:30 p.m. All three reportedly told police they were renting a room, but the residence was not supposed to be occupied, Lt. Steve Brooks, Lake County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, said.
Central dispatch ran a records check on each subject, and while waiting to receive information one of the deputies noticed several items in the garage that looked similar to items reported stolen during a burglary earlier in the year. When pressed, none of the subjects could account for the property, Brooks said.
When central dispatch completed its search, deputies were notified that Gutierrez, 30, had two outstanding warrants for his arrest and placed him in the back of the patrol vehicle.
As the deputy returned to the garage to continue his investigation concerning the possible stolen property, Gutierrez forced one of the rear windows down and took off, Brooks said.
Several additional deputies were called in, and neighboring residents received a call via City Watch to alert them of the escape, but Gutierrez was not found.
It wasn’t until Tuesday afternoon that he was again taken into custody when a deputy recognized Gutierrez as a passenger in a vehicle in the area of Highway 29 and Kits Corner in Kelseyville. Gutierrez was arrested without incident for the two warrants and charged with being in possession of methamphetamine and for escaping custody while being charged with a felony.
