WILLITS >> Rachel Wingler and Valerie Hutton pounded out six kills apiece and the Clear Lake Cardinals made quick work of the Willits Wolverines 25-12, 25-14, 25-14 in North Central League I varsity volleyball action on Thursday in Willits.
Wingler also had eight digs while Hutton added two blocks as Clear Lake pushed its league record to 3-0.
Also contributing to the straight-set win were Emily Psalmonds with 17 assists, Courtney Hiatt with three kills and two blocks, and Eloisa Morfin with 10 service points, eight of them coming in a row in the third set, including two aces.
Clear Lake’s junior varsity club also improved to 3-0 in league with a 25-14, 25-12 win. Corin Alakszay and Kiana Richardson each had four kills.

M’town def. Fort Bragg
At Fort Bragg, it wasn’t easy but the Middletown Mustangs rallied past the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 10-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-13, 15-8 in NCL I action.
Abby Aden led the Mustangs (2-0) with 11 kills while Jordan Ketchum had 27 digs. Emily Lescher also came up big with five kills and six blocks.
Son. Academy def. Upper Lake
At Santa Rosa, Sonoma Academy handed Upper Lake its first NCL II loss in four matches, beating the Cougars 25-15, 26-24, 25-20.
Natalie Karlsson led the Cougars with eight kills and 22 digs, Christina Wilson had 23 digs, Brenna Sanchez added 10 service points, three blocks and two aces, and Isabel Rorabaugh had 20 digs, eight service points and four kills.
Sonoma Academy also won the JV match 25-21, 25-18. Leading Upper Lake (2-2) was Adriana Saldana with six kills and two aces.
Girls’ soccer
Middletown 7, K’ville 1
At Kelseyville, Kaleigh Alves scored three goals and had an assist while Caitlin Lemoine contributed two goals and an assist in Middletown’s NCL I win over the Kelseyville Knights.
Alves, a senior, started the game at forward before eventually moving to midfield and then sweeper, according to Middletown coach Amy Emerson, who moved her starters around as the game became more lopsided.
Alves’ first goal just two minutes into the contest put Middletown (3-0 league, 4-2 overall) ahead to stay. The Mustangs led 3-0 before the Knights scored near the end of the first half.
Madison Ketchum and Rosie Emerson also scored goals for the Mustangs.
Clear Lake 2, St. Helena 0
At St. Helena, sophomore forward Lexi Burke assisted on Clear Lake’s first goal and then scored what proved to be the game winner later in the first half as the Cardinals edged St. Helena in NCL I play.
Mina Werner scored 10 minutes into the game go give Clear Lake (2-1-2, 3-8-4) the lead. Burke made it 2-0 on a penalty kick.
St. Helena closed to 2-1 with five minutes left in the game. The two teams also played four minutes of stoppage time but the Cardinals’ defense held firm thanks to the play of Taylor Powers, Ciera Moreno and keeper Brookyn Jenkins.

Cloverdale 4, Lower Lake 0
At Cloverdale, the Lower Lake Trojans battled the Cloverdale Eagles to a scoreless tie through the first 20 minutes of the first half before Cloverdale began to find the range.
“I was totally thrilled with our play the first 20 minutes,” Lower Lake coach Dan Griffin said. “But then Cloverdale began to put some things together and scored three quick goals.”
Lower Lake (0-3) loaded up on defense in the second half and allowed just one goal.
“I had to put my most experienced players back on defense,” Griffin said. “Our offense still hasn’t gotten it together. It’s been that way all season.”
