KELSEYVILLE >> There was no letdown for Kelseyville following its big five-set road win on Tuesday at St. Helena. The Knights came right back on Thursday to beat the visiting Cloverdale Eagles 25-10, 21-25, 25-14, 25-15 and run their North Central League I varsity volleyball record to 4-0.
“They are playing as a pretty cohesive team,” Kelseyville coach Donelle McCallister said.
Heidy Cano had a huge night hitting the ball, collecting 17 kills on 25 arm swings with only two hitting errors. Carli Mendonca added 12 kills while setter Riley Goff did her job and then some with 31 assists and five aces.
McCallister also had high praise for the back row play of Lauren Rudnick, calling it “superior.”
Cloverdale won the junior varsity match 25-13, 25-21. Grace Duty had three kills and three digs for the Knights, Emma Larsen added six digs, three assists and two aces, and Kaleigh Nunn had five digs and three assists.
In varsity action Tuesday at St. Helena, the Knights tripped up the defending league champions with a come-from-behind 19-25, 27-25, 25-27, 25-18, 16-14 victory fueled by Mendonca’s 14 kills. Cano also came up big with 12 kills while Goff led the team with 29 assists.
Rudnick, Tymeka Green and Payton Conrad anchored the defense, digging up shot after shot by the Saints.
Kelseyville returns to action Saturday in the CIVT Tournament in Sacramento. The Knights are home again on Tuesday against Fort Bragg.
