UPPER LAKE >> Sophomore forward Julia Mooney scored twice in each half on Monday afternoon as the Upper Lake Cougars won their first game of the season, pounding the Anderson Valley Panthers 7-1 in North Central League II girls’ soccer action at Upper Lake.
Upper Lake (1-7) jumped out to a quick lead as Mooney scored the first of her four goals in the opening minutes. The Cougars built a 4-0 lead before Anderson Valley broke through. Upper Lake led 5-1 at halftime.
“We’re coming together and finally taking shots on goal, which we haven’t been doing,” Upper Lake coach Mandy Robbins said. “Where have they been? I don’t know,” Robbins added of the five-goal first-half barrage of goals.
Kaitlyn Minnis scored twice for the Cougars and Chelsea Valdez had the other goal. Minnis, Valdez, Mooney, Angel Huntley and Cheyanne Obedoza all had assists.
